Broadband Internet in Dublin and Ireland

Broadband Internet Services in Ireland - Dublin

Broadband in Ireland is, to put it nicely, extremely insufficient and slow. If you have ever lived in Europe you will be amazed how slow and expensive Broadband is in Ireland. This is mostly due to the monopoly Eircom(our national telephone carrier) has had over the phone and internet providers in Ireland and our unstable and morally corrupt government who have refused to do anything about it.

We also have a regulator who, like most other regulators in Ireland, bark alot but do very little about the real problem. If one looks at the recent banking crisis and the inability for regulators to do anything about those who should know better, then you will get some idea of how this stuff works in Ireland.

The reason I am telling you all of this is to prepare you for a shock when trying to do a simple task like getting broadband for your computer. One suggestion that is paramount in all of this - KEEP AWAY FROM EIRCOM BROADBAND - they will be twice as expensive and the service will be terrible. Go with the cheapest no matter what, because, almost all broadband services in Ireland are behind in both customer service and reliability. 3G are, at the moment one of the cheapest and they offer an ok customer service department. There are a range of others, make some phone calls, ask some questions. Just remember, do not expect anyone to tell you the truth about their service and get the shortest contract you can find.

Old Irish Recipes - Wicklow Pancakes

This is an old Irish Recipe that is not as popular as it once was. This is a nice tasty Irish treat that can be used as a starter for dinner, or even for breakfast. Personally for me, I cook eat any time I feel like a light meal, or just before I set off fishing. Cook loads of it – it is high in Protein and will keep you going for the day.

4 large eggs
600 ml of milk
4 ounces of fresh breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon of chopped parsley
Some chopped thyme
2 tablespoons of chopped chives or scallions
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons of Butter

Beat the eggs lightly, then add the milk, breadcrumbs, herbs and seasonings, and mix well. Heat 1 tablespoon of the butter in a pan until foaming, then pour in the mixture and cook over a low flame until it is brown underneath and just set on top. Put under the grill to finish. Serve cut into wedges with a knob of butter on each piece.
