Northern Ireland & Belfast Museums

Armagh County Museum
I visited The Armagh County Museum a while back and decided to do a little write-up on it. It has an exceptional and unique art collection includes works by many well-known Irish artists. A range of temporary exhibitions is held throughout the year. An extensive reference library, rich in archive material, along with photographic and map collections is open to visitors by appointment. It is wheelchair accessible and very easy to get around, it is also part of the National Museums Northern Ireland.

The Ulster American Folk Park
This is a great day out for anyone - a journey back into what Ireland was really like. Based in County Tyrone, the Museum tells the story of emigration from Ulster to America in the 18th & 19th centuries. There is the usual fittings and furniture from the past as well as a whole host of Artifacts from the 19th century. (A cafe attached with nice hot scones)

Who was Brian Boru - where is he buried?

Filed under: Armagh - Vacations, History and Heritage Ireland — admin @ 12:19 pm

So, who was Brian Boru and and how did he get so famous? well, he was a mean warrior that kicked the Vickings around the old green field on many an occasion. He lived about 1000 (1014)years ago and he enjoyed the occasional Kentucky Fried Chicken and he eventually became the King. He is said to be buried
in the North Wall of Saint Patrick’s Church Of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh which dates back to medieval times. He lay in state in the Cathedral for twelve days before burial. If you want to see him and have a chat -
